In February 2006 GTi OC was approached by MB Motorsports
as a
possible sponsor to get involved with a motorsport car build to be
entered into the tin top championship for the 2006-2007 season. With
so many clubs thinking of a project car they normally don't actually
happen due to issues such as; who owns the car? who buys the parts?
who does the work? etc
Working with MB Motorsports gives us the chance of entering a
motorsport car into a championship and not having to worry about these
issues. It is a great chance for the club to have a real asset which
will help the club evolve and also form a even stronger partnership
with MB Motorsport.
So who are MB Motorsports and what do they do?

Bournemouth
based MB Motorsport is owned and run by Martin Bridge who over the
last two decades has worked, run and driven in the world of
motorsport. Marin, an ex pro footballer with a mad interest in
motorsport first got into the sport at club level auto testing
with the good old mk1 & mk2 Escorts and the Metro Turbo's. Having
al ready opened a garage called 'The Car Clinic' this was an ideal
time to progress into the motorsport world.
An
opening became available to work with a motorsport team in
Newbury's 'Scott Racing and Imagica Sports', this was the cross
roads time for martin, Doe's he stay working away at the garage or
give it up to pursue his ambitions in the motorsport industry? He
took the plunge and ever day drove the hour drive to Newbury.
Working for Scott gave him the opportunity to experience the in's
and out's of circuit training, working on such cars as the Lancia
Stratos, Alfa 156, 33 which ran in the Auto-Italia championship.
Working with Neil O'Dell, and Graham Scott won the 'A' class
championship in his Stratos. Also that season he came second in
the Goodwood Revival meeting.
Second
season saw Cozens Racing compete in the stock hatch championship
which was also run from Scott Racing workshop which brought the
Peugeot 106 XSi and later the building of a second car. This
season also brought along Graham competing in the Ferrari
challenge in a 355.
On
leaving Scott Racing to pursue his dream Martin then started MB
Motorsport in his home town. Since doing so he has been involved
not only in preparing cars but also as a race support and meeting
with many race teams such as, Napier Motorsport, Alfa Centuri, NJS
Racing, Cozens Racing, Gordon Macmillon, and Harldy Racing to name
a few.
The
rest as we say is history! |
With MB Motorsports
experience and professionalism and GTi Owners member base this should
be an exciting project for both.
